Hi Tom,
I Think you have the lake wrong if this is the one between the fire road and the trail then it is MacDougalls Lake.
Bethsheila and I Hiked Franey June 25th it was a sunny day and we got some great pictures of the views and also white lady slippers and moccasin flower which I call pink Lady slippers. We also found some labrador tea on the fire road. Seen some birds too.
I found the trail very eroded from spring run offs. Which can make the hike a little harder to do, but it's worth it for the views and surrounding beauty.

CPAWS NS would love to support and promote the hike the highlands festival. We have launched a new initiative to encourage the connection between low-impact, self-propelled outdoor recreation and wilderness conservation with Mountain Equipment Co-op, called The Big Wild (www.thebigwild.org).

If there are any booths available for international trails day, or a chance for collaboration please let me know.

So glad to hear there's interest in Nova Scotia. We have a large contingent of Nordic Walkers in southern New Brunswick under the leadership of Yennah Hurley and her Walking Proud group. We walk every morning and every night, Monday to Friday and hike off-road on Saturday mornings. If anyone is ever in the area, please join us for a walk. The times and locations are all on the website: www.walkingproud.com

We have 2 certified INWA instructors in the group so newcomers are always welcome! We have poles in every size if you don't have your own.

To your health,
Marilyn

Hi We plan to go to Cape Breton Island next year (the summer of 2008) and would like information on hiking along the Cabot trail. Do you have maps with descriptions the trails, their lengths and level of difficulty ( if there are steep hills or rocks to climb along the way) and where the trails are. I would appreciate knowing where to get this type of information.
                                        Rita Fink,

Thanks Pete for taking the time to share with us your comments on the Nordic Walking poles and one piece design. Greatly appreciate it as my poles are one piece design. I agree hiking with poles is the best.

Best regards,

Hiking with Nordic Walking poles really does make hiking even more enjoyable. Today I had my varsity cross country teams up on Alligator Hill in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park in Northern Michigan and everyone loved the poles.

Besides giving your arms a purpose and a better workout, the shoch to the shins, knees, hips and back are radically reduced. Poles make clinbing and descending a breeze.

I am also a ski coach and we only use one-piece poles custom fit to each individual's height - safer, lighter and much more durable than twist locking adjustable/telescoping/collapsible poles.

Hiking with poles is the best,
